SHOOTING IN MANILA
2010 saw an influx of foreign companies coming to the Philippines to shoot their television commercials and content projects. Aside from regular TVC clients from the region, other companies have recognized that the Philippines is a viable option with the availability of talents and crew, shoot and post facilities, location, to name a few, all at a very competitive cost.
Korean international superstar Rain was recently in Manila to film scenes for his action drama series The Fugitive, which started airing on KBS end of September 2010. Local network TV5, in partnership with Korea’s Domangja Productions, tapped Unitel to provide production services for ten days of filming in various locations in Metro Manila and Batangas province. The Fugitive is about a hefty sum of money that disappeared during the Korean War and 60 years later, pops up and leads to a frantic chase across the globe. It also stars Lee Na Young, Daniel Henney and Lee Jung Jin under the direction of Leong-Hwan Kwak. Aside from the Philippine locations, the series was also filmed in Seoul, Busan, Tokyo, Shanghai and Macau.
A Singapore content provider also came to Manila to shoot the pilot for a breakthrough television series that is now being optioned in North America and two Asian countries. Unitel developed their concept and took the project from concept stage to postproduction, with everything done in Manila. The same Singapore company is working with Unitel in developing a second project.
Earlier, Unitel has collaborated with a French production team for a one-month shoot for a TV drama series aired on a French-German TV network.
Production support for overseas clients filming in the Philippines is a regular service that Unitel provides. Regular clients include production houses, content providers, advertisers and advertising agencies from Hong Kong, Shanghai, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam and Korea.
